Round 2 - Donington Park
A bitterly cold weekend at Donington and to make it worse, one minute dry the next minute wet. Friday's qualifying was spent trying to get the bike set up properly but out of 55 riders Victor finished in 28th. So far so good for race day, at least he would be on the grid.
In the evening Bob Cooley brought Robbie along to assist Kev (STP team mechanic) with the bikes. This meant that Kev could spend more time on Phil Beavn's bike while Robbie could concentrate on the Vicar's R1.
Saturday saw Victor Stewy and Robbie making final adjustments to the bike, just in time for second qualifying. The bike definitely handled better and Victor shaved 0.5 of a second off his previous best putting him 27th on the grid. Might not sound too good but there is only fractions of a second between 27th and 15th.
Race day... with the Superstock Championship due to be run at 4 o'clock and the weather forecast for sleet and snow after midday who knows what will happen!
What conditions, rain and the circuit like an ice rink. Victor had a good start but going into Craner for the first time he got pushed off the circuit onto the grass, he rejoined but right at the back of the field. In typical Vicar fashion he fought back until he caught up with four other riders all vieing for 15th position. Unfortunately, on the last lap the bike slid from under him and straight into the kitty litter at Redgate.
Undeterred, he picked himself and the bike up and managed to finish in 24th. Not the position he was looking for but now its time to focus on Thruxton.
