Donington Park MotoGP 30 June, 1-2 July 2006
After my two rounds at Mondello Park got cancelled we were told that we would be racing at Donington Park at the MotoGP round.
I couldn't wait because of the last time I raced along side the MotoGP in the R6 cup I was running in first place until my big off at Foggy's Esses which caused me to break my collar bone & shoulder!!!
I traveled up to Donington park on Friday morning as my session was not until late afternoon, after some good over taking on the M4 I arrived at Donington to here the G.P bike's which made the hair's on the back of my neck stand up and I couldn't wait to get on that bike!!!
First session I jump into my leathers to realised how hot it really was I made sure that I drank lots of water to keep myself hydrated and some harbos to give me some extra energy. As it was a qualifying session I really needed to get my head down so I could bag a good time and managed to get 12th by the end of the session.
Second session I didn't improve on my time I just couldn't get a clear lap in!! I then ended up 20th on the grid for both races.
First race after a bad start but a good first few corners, I managed to work my way up through a few position and by lap 8 I was running in 13th battling for a top 10 finish, I was having a good battle with three other riders which I managed to battle through and pull a 2.5 seconds gap by the checkered flag and finished 10th but due to a post technical one of the riders was excluded which then put me in 9th place my best result of the session so far which also got me some good points.
Second race I started in 18th place on the grid as a few riders had dropped out. After another bad start I managed to fight my way up through the positions a lot quicker this time I had a good battle with Luke Quigley for 10th position and I managed to get in front & pull a lead on him and finished 10th, more good points.
All in all it was a very good weekend and I've two lots of points to add to my championship position I would like to say a big thank you to mark and mark and their families for coming to support me and feed me and the rest of the team also Claire for the mean jacket spuds!!!
