Round 1 - Thruxton
This was a real good weekend for me after Brands Hatch. At Brands I went the wrong way with the suspension making it all too stiff working the tyre too much. Then, after talking to Paul from STP Racing, we realised what we had to do to the bike to get the suspension to work better.
For the first session on Friday the track was dry but it was very windy with the odd drop of rain. For this session the bike instantly felt better and I finished that session in 14th. For the second session on Friday, the first qualifier with a couple of tweaks to the rear adding a bit more ride height and compression we got it to a good bases. For most of this session I was in the top ten and still feeling I had plenty more to go but with about 15 mins to go it started to drizzle a bit so we waited for it to settle then got back on the circuit for the last 5 min. I didn’t manage to improve on my time and dropped to 14th. Thruxton is a really abrasive circuit, with a new set of tyres there at their best for the first 5 laps then they start to slide around so it’s good to try and get a good time in early whilst the tyres are new.
The 3rd session - second qualifier - was wet but incredibly grippy. For this session I ended up about 19th but felt that I still had more to come in the wet.
For the race I had a good start making up a couple of positions but I come off the line I think Kenny must of nearly stalled his bike finding him coming into my tracks colliding and bending my right handle bar. I was lucky to stay on but quickly managed to carry on and push my way up the field. I had a fairly good race and managed to get up to 10th pos nearly pipping Howie for 9th. I will be looking to improve on my result for Oulton Park.
Thanks to all the guys for there help and also a big thanks to all my sponsors for coming and supporting me.
